Job Description

SUMMARY Manages financial activities of the credit union by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares regulatory call reports, tax returns, and monthly/quarterly Board and management financial performance to budget reports and analysis.
  • Directs the organization’s budget process and oversees responsibility center operational expense to budget performance with the CFO.
  • Functions as the direct liaison for communications with responsibility and cost centers for operating expense planning and management.
  • Establishes, or recommends to management, accounting procedures and policies for company.
  • Maintains all reporting in accordance with GAAP. Ensures that staff and Controller understand latest changes in GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Actively manages responsibility center budget to actual performance and proactively maintains strong relationships with business line managers. Assures Adaptive Solutions budget planning system is well maintained and synchronized with the Prologue General Ledger System.
  • Advises management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
  • Provides management with timely reviews of organization's financial status and progress in its various programs and activities.
  • Directs determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets.
  • Advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax code revisions.
  • Supervises cash management and liquidity transactions.
  • Supervises accounts payable functions to adhere with credit union approval policies.
  • Improves internal processes to increase efficiencies.
  • Supervises internal reconciliation process for bank accounts and departmental GLs. Analyzes controls for appropriate segregation of duties.
  • Arranges for audits of company's accounts.

Skills / Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS                                                  

 Education and/or Experience                                            

Certified Public Accountant and four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 Language Skills                                          

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 Mathematical Skills                                                

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 Reasoning Ability                                                   

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 Computer Skills                                          

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
